Creativity, what brings it on? What is it that causes men and women to stay up light nights and get up early to dream and create? Why is it that there are places and individuals that when your around it shakes every creative bone in your body and awakens every cell within your brain? I’m not sure I’ve figured out the cause, but I have heard a note, been awe struck by a view and the next thing I knew there is a volcanic eruption of vision and creativity.
So I have been thinking about people, places and things that spark my creativity and how can I incorporate this things into my daily routine.
- Art Galleries: I have been to numerous galleries that have displayed art from paintings to sculptures and every time there is a burst of energy. I’m sure that this is a classic example of “reproduction after it’s own kind.” Creativity breeds creativity. The energy that I sense from these artists speaks to the artist that is within.
- Any Apple Store: The lighting, the layout, the floor, all the new technology invigorates my to want to surround myself with state-of-the-art tools to create print, audio and video media.
- Coffee Shops and Cafes: The smell of coffee, cherry wood tables, and artist lighting slow brews my creative juices.
- Creative People: Creative people from artists, to writers, speakers, successful business men and women challenge me to creative and inspire me to dream.
- Monks: Yes, monks. Their daily discipline rips at me and challenges me to live with discipline.
- Traveling: Something changes inside of me when I have the opportunity to travel. My few European trips have produced many creative moments.
- Nature: Created things breath creativity into creative beings.
I know that some of these creative spark-plugs are not always available on a daily basis, but being aware of what makes me tick can produce greater results than the stab in the dark routine. I must also be aware of those things that still my creativity. Things such as,
- Laziness
- Negativity
- People, places and things that have lost their creative edge. In other words they are in a state of decomposing.
- Complacency
- Past failures
- Past success
As I think about what drives my creativity, I’m curious to know what are the things that cause you to be creative? Leave a comment, send an email! I would love to hear from you! There is great potential when creative people begin to converse among themselves.
