A Few Random Thoughts

August 6, 2007 · 2 comments

One of my strengths is my ability to analyze just about anything. One of my weaknesses is my ability to analyze just about everything. I can see the big picture and then break it down it tiny pieces, only to see more big pictures that have their own tiny pieces.

When I find myself in these moments, It seems like I’m in a never ending battle of why and when, not to mention the how’s. Here are a few questions I’ve been thinking about in the past 24-48 hours.

1. Is everyone that blogs about productivity actually productive?

2. Are those that are always networking actually connecting?

3. How much consumer generated content is fresh insight or just parroting someone else’s views and thoughts?

4. How much social media is leading to face to face connections and team collaboration?

5. How many individuals “start over” and what drives their motivation?

As you can see, questions often lead to more questions. What are your thoughts? Are using social media tools to connect for the greater good? Have you had to start over in your career? What new insights are you talking about right now? What new connection have you made in the last seven days?

**Are using social media tools to connect for the greater good?
I believe so. I’m making much deeper connections with people in Facebook and meeting a lot of people close up. There’s international people I’d never have e-met or met in person that I know now through some online connection.
Though they don’t always lead to face-to-face connections, sometimes meeting people from the inside-out gets things done faster.
**Have you had to start over in your career?
I change careers every four years I’d say, so yes. I bore easily.
And right now, I’ve had to start over in website promotion and blogging, after being out of the loop 8 months due to sickness. I jumped back in the loop and was embraced. And promptly decided to retire after selling a partnership interest in my business and blog full time.
**What new insights are you talking about right now?
That I should stop visiting blogs where my comments are not being returned. I normally don’t leave long comments like this, and half the time I don’t leave my link because the connection is more important to me than a free link back.
Even under those conditions, many people just don’t *ever* answer comments. Then they’ll complain that no one talks to them. Bah!
**What new connection have you made in the last seven days?
If this wasn’t so long already, I’d list ten people here. I met them all on Facebook and the networking has led to actions that will make for long-term benefit on both parts.
