Nothing can be more frustrating than setting out to tackle a project and spend the whole day getting absolutely nothing accomplished. I’ve had days when it seemed like there was one interruption after another. There have been other times when I couldn’t get focused. Then there are times when you make excuses about the interruptions and lack of focused and still get nothing done.
However, it can be extremely rewarding when you breakthrough the no productivity funk and get things done that you originally intended to. Here are some simple tips that will help you get back on track.
1. Stop what you are doing and walk away
You’ll never get focused staring at a computer screen or a pile of files etc. You have to walk away, get a drink, clear you head, go relax and come back later.
2. Re-Prioritize the things you have to get done.
Often times we get distracted by the little things and let the stuff that has to get down slip by. Make the priorities the priorities.
3. Focus on the ONE thing that has to get done.
Take that list you just prioritized and tackle the first one. Don’t worry about nothing else, it’s one step at a time.
4. Shut everything else down.
Whatever that means to you. For me it’s mobile phone, IM, Twitter, TV, nearby conversations. It’s all about being focused now.
Get it done! You’ll be surprised of the new found energy and determination you’ll have that I wouldn’t be surprised if the one item becomes two etc. etc.
