Wrapped within the success stories of the wealthy, you will find one common thread that most wealthy individuals possess. This characteristic often separates the wealthy from those that only wish they were wealthy. Individuals like Oprah, Tony Robbins, Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, Sir Richard Branson are just a few that possess this gift. This gift has no expiration date and is not based on religion, race or gender.

The best kept secret of a millionaire is understanding the power of giving. Giving of their time, knowledge and resources can be the breaking point for the individual who receives the gift. This wisdom can even be traced back to ancient times: “Give away your life; you’ll find life given back, but not merely given back—given back with bonus and blessing. Giving, not getting, is the way. Generosity begets generosity.”

Learning how to give isn’t as much of a challenge as it is making a practice. However, like any habit the more you exercise it the more it becomes natural.

Tips to Make Giving a Habit Today

Giving Value

You don’t need money to give value to someone else. Connecting two parties together is a way of adding value. Emailing a tip or article can also be extremely beneficial to giving value. Another way is promoting someone’s work. I’ve even been known to purchase books and training materials as a gift of value.

Adding value isn’t as much as what you do as much as it is finding measurable ways to better someone else.

Supporting a Cause (Giving your Time)

Groups all over the world are looking for people to help. Community groups are always looking for volunteers to give of their time. Political parties can always benefit from people supporting a political cause. Churches, synagogues, temples, and mosques are other options to support a cause or initiative. Charities that focus on world hunger, epidemics, and human rights are great places to invest you time.

All it takes is for you to contact your local community organization and ask what you can do to help. I guarantee that they’ll be happy to have you on board.

Giving Your Funds

Giving your funds doesn’t mean that you have to support any and everyone that asks. Finding a cause that you believe in from their structure to their cause is what your are looking for. You want to find an organization that you can trust is using your money correctly. With just a little research you can find the right group that best fits you.

Learning to make giving a part of your lifestyle can be extremely rewarding. Adding value to others, supporting causes, and giving of your funds is a great way to think and live outside of your world. By living outside of your world, your giving impacts someone’s else’s world.

How do you incorporate giving as a life habit? What wisdom could you add to give value to someone else? Leave a comment and share your thoughts.
