Finding answers to life’s hard questions is always a challenge for all of us. Especially when it comes to our future, our careers and significant others. Unfortunately, many individuals feel stuck in careers and relationships because they can’t interpret their own life’s compass.

Sadly, what often takes place is wondering from one job to the next, in and out of multiple relationships hoping that this might be their lucky day. Instead of living with confidence, they make major life’s decisions based on their own uncertainties.

How many people do you know that can’t stand their job? Secondly, how many people do you know that the only reason they stay stuck is because they don’t know what to do next?

Here are a few tips that you can use to follow your life’s compass.

What are you passionate about?

It’s the million dollar question… What would you do if money wasn’t an issue? What consumes your thoughts? What do you see yourself doing? Your passion fuels your ability to move in the right direction. Ignoring your passion (and purpose) is what causes the frustrations that lead to being stuck.

When you can embrace your passion, your ability to see becomes clearer. Your passion points you in the direction that you should take. Everything starts with dreams, passion and purpose.

What are you good at?

This is the beginning of being brutally honest. What can you do? What talents to you have? Do you have the skills that can align with what your passionate about? Again honesty is a must here.

If you don’t have the skills are you willing to obtain them? This also will tell you if what your passionate about is really a goal driven passion or just a mere pipe-dream.

If your lacking the skills this is the place to begin. Find a mentor, get training, increase your reading disciplines. Go to university, attend seminars, listen, learn, listen, ask questions. This is what will sustain you when you began to launch your new initiative.

What are you willing to leave behind?

This is often the hardest to grasp, because it means letting go. In order to move in the direction of what your passionate about, you have to walk away to what has become familiar to you. While it sounds easy, letting go can produce emotions, and negativity from friends and colleagues. However, every individual that has every found their space at one point had to walk away.

It’s at this phase they many walk away and settle for the path someone else has cleared for them. Many dreams die here because their unwillingness to take a risk. It’s here where you begin to rely on your compass, any doubt to the direction you are headed will abort the mission before you every really get started.

If you can walk away from what may seem comfortable now, this process will become easier and easier as you move closer to you end goal.

Who have you aligned to?

The strength of any strategic operation can be found in it’s allies. In some situations it’s not always what you know, but who you know. There will be times when you have to know some people. You have to network!

Your purpose in networking is not to see how you can use someone, but how you can build a bridge between individuals that both of you can use to give and receive value. Relational investments are never wasted time.

Do you know where your going?

It’s one thing to have something your passionate about, it’s another thing to know how to get there. You can have a dream, skills, ability to take a risk, a strong network, but if you don’t have a plan your ability to interpret your compass becomes extremely blurry.

You have to know every detail. Leaving out one part of the plan jeopardize the entire process.

Can you execute?

Finally, can you get the job done? Can you make it happen? Can you execute the plan? If you can, then your on your way to doing the things you love, being the person you want to be, and achieving the goals that you’ve set out.
