The Missing Links: Your Weekend Reader

The Weekend Reader is a collection of links to articles and posts that have caught my attention over the past seven days. Enjoy!

Seth Godin Explains Why You Need a Tribe and Why he is Not on Twitter: "A fantastic conversation with Seth Godin on why we all need a tribe and why Seth is not on Twitter. I love Seth comments on the fact that we all need to be the best in the World at one thing rather than trying to do too much. Seth is a master, I am a fan. Now get yourself on Twitter!"

Zappos.com CEO Tony Hsieh explains in a bathroom how he reached $1billion in sales: "Another great conversation at TED with Tony Hsieh CEO of Zappos.com. Tony explains how wow service and zappos culture have made them a purple cow and helped Zapppos reach a $1 billion in sales. Very impressive!"

Are CMO’s Tracking Social Media and WOM?: "We all know that social media and word of mouth marketing is great and powerful, but if you’re not measuring it or tracking it correctly then how do you know it’s working? PPC for example is very easy to track and measure. You are given clear stats as to what you put in and how much you got out. Things aren’t as black and white with social media and word of mouth, but that doesn’t mean that companies should not be tracking or monitoring it."

Ford’s CEO Takes On Twitter: "I was at a preview event that Ford was holding for media prior to the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), when in strolled our CEO, Alan Mulally. He was immediately swarmed by journalists, who formed the traditional scrum. When they dispersed, I got his attention and asked if he wanted to take some questions on Twitter. “What’s Twitter?” he asked. Fair question. When I explained it to him briefly (and what I had been doing on Twitter recently), he was all for it."

5 reasons why a User-Centric business model always wins: "I believe a User Centric business model is more powerful in the end. Focus on user value and monetize that value. It is the simplest and clearest business model there is. It is a model that comes with several advantages."

I like the Seth/Twitter post, but does that mean Twitter is useless?
Ironically, your next link is about how Zappos became so successful, in no small part due to Twitter!
An article about all that, and how to explain the discrepancy:

Jason, Thanks for sharing the link. Great stuff! Personally, I think it all boils down to being yourself, nothing more, nothing less.
