The key to succeeding in business and life is by creating good habits. If you can do the same things well and with consistency, than you’ll see the results that you are looking for.

Over the past 90 days or so, I’ve lost a total of 30 pounds. I didn’t go on any crazy diets or take diet pills. The only thing I did was change my habits. I started by making sure the first thing I do every morning is exercise. The next thing I’ve done is to watch what I eat. For me it was watching my sugar intake and making sure I was consuming a more healthy, balanced meals. I’ve made sure that I try to eat one “raw” meal everyday. This exercise over the past 90 days has proven that if you change your habits, you will see results.

Social Media Success Is More About Habits Than Tools

Everyone is trying to find out what is the latest tool or tip they can use to leverage social media. However, the success of social media is by doing the same things over and over again. With consistent habits, eventually you will begin to see the needle move.

Social Media Get Back in Shape Checklist

  1. Develop a blueprint that you use as a foundation for all social media execution.
  2. Recommit to the foundation of social media: listening and conversations.
  3. Set-up a listening dashboard to monitoring conversations in your industry, specific niche keywords, as well as your name and blog.
  4. Get back into the habit of creating engaging content. Commit to producing some type of content on a daily basis.
  5. Identify a short list of blogs to comment on and add value to the conversation.
  6. Make sure all your profiles are up-to-date.
  7. Connect people in your network with great content, as well as with other individuals in your network.
  8. Be available to respond when someone leaves a comment, writes on your wall, leaves a Twitter message etc..
  9. Do items 1-8 daily.

This is my checklist, what will you add? The comments are yours.

  • Grats on the weight loss. Focusing on the behavior is the key. You're so right.

Wanna share a sample social media blueprint? Also, what do you use as a dashboard for monitoring? iGoogle seems to do a fair job. I didn't get very far with Netvibes.
  • I've used both. iGoogle works, as well as Netvibes. I use RSS from Google Alerts, Twitter Search etc. and then just monitoring it all through my RSS reader.
  • David,

Congratulations on your personal success in health. Thank you for sharing your personal story about getting healthier as way to offer advice on social media. Process is the answer to most of life's challenges, yet we often want immediate results in our society.

#4 creating engaging content daily is a challenge for me. This is because when I create content, I want to make it significant - sometimes too much so. Yet, I do not have time to do this every day considering my other responsibilities. I take from your post that I can create smaller bits of content on days when I am busy, perhaps share a video or photo that I took. This approach will result in a nice blend of content; and enable me to stick with the process even when busy.

    Keep sharing the goods,
    Korye
  • Korye, Thanks for the comment. Mix it up!! Not every post has to be significant, but it does need to be informative. Remember not everyone is going to engaged with text. Some will engage more with video or even audio. However, the struggle we all have is being consistent.

    Thanks again for the comment.
