Books for me are like doorways into new worlds. When searching for new doors I usually break my reading down into two categories, informative and experience. The ultimate goal is to learn and to be exposed.

This morning while engaged in my Sunday morning ritual which consists, of coffee, the local newspaper, the print edition of the New York Times, a book and a journal, a few books jumped out at me that I knew I had to add to my summer reading list.

Adding to the never ending list are:

"City of Thieves: A Novel" (David Benioff)
"The Last Days of Old Beijing: Life in the Vanishing Backstreets of a City Transformed" (Michael Meyer)
"Origins: A Memoir" (Amin Maalouf)
"The Leopard: A Novel" (Giuseppe Di Lampedusa)

If your reading any of these books, let me know. I would love to hear your thoughts. Finally, if none of these books are on your summer reading list, what are you reading this summer.

Big Brown Wins the Preakness 133

If your new to davidsfinch.com, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed or receive free email updates. Thanks for visiting.

Big Brown wins! Kentucky Derby 134 winner Big Brown wins the 133rd running of The Preakness Stakes. Big Brown will now go to New York to race in the Belmont Stakes in three weeks. If Big Brown wins at the Belmont he would be the first Triple Crown winner since Affirmed in 1978. It's been 30 years since we've had a Triple Crown winner. I think horse racing is overdue!

If you missed The Preakness 133 enjoy!

Finally, I Feel Like Dancing

Dancingshoes

Is it 2008 yet? What an different first few weeks of the new year it has been. I think I'm late to the dance, but I've brought my dancing shoes and I'm ready to roll.

Historically, I've always used the last month of the year to prepare, dream and visualize my goals for the upcoming year. It's become a common practice to take the last ten days of December and shift gears towards the new year. This enables me to hit the new year running. However, with the family tragedy that took place over the holidays and the last few weeks slowly getting back in to the groove of things, I have felt completely out of sync. I didn't realize how important those last few weeks of December have become so vital in starting the new year strong.

While many have raced into the new year with eager anticipation and desire, I've limped into the new year, but not without great excitement and enthusiasm about the projects and possibilities I have mapped out for the remainder of this year. I hope to be able to talk about a few of them soon.

Until then I've put my shoes on and now it's time to dance.

How are you doing with your goals? Have you had any set-backs? How have you dealt with them? Leave and comment and join the conversation.

Happy New Year! It's 2008 and your time to shine. The one thing I love about the new year is the opportunity to close one chapter and move in to the next.

We can never get time back, but what a great time to regroup and regain momentum to achieve you goals and dreams. Make a decision to start strong with purpose and passion.

This is going to be your best year ever! It's up to you if you take advantage of this moment.

A Word from the Editor

To all my friends and readers of this blog, I wanted to update you of the family events that have taken place over the last four days. Tuesday evening we received a phone call that no one wants to receive. My twenty-nine year old brother-n-law, and the only brother of my wife was tragically killed in a horrific automobile accident. As you can imagine, the unexpected tragedy has been more than what our family can bear.

While we have been inundated by an outpouring of love and support from our closest friends and family I've decided to take the next week and spend time to grieve and heal with my wife and daughters. My intentions are to begin blogging at the start of the new year.

In this season of peace and giving, your thoughts and prayers are greatly appreciated. To all of you who have subscribed over the last year as well as left thought provoking comments, thank you. I look forward to more conversations in the upcoming year.

Peace!

A Day of Thanks

All over the United States today families gather to eat, laugh, play games, and watch movies and sports. However, at the core of all of this is a general attitude of gratitude. Being thankful for family, friends and health can be found somewhere in conversations and prayers.

With that being said, I want to say "Thanks" to the community that is being built around davidsfinch.com. To all of you that subscribe, comment and send emails of support, you are the ones that excite me to write and dream about the future of new media.

This has been a fantastic year of influence and growth. Thank you for being a part.

The Migration Process Has Begun: davidsfinch.com

In the last eight years I have used multiple tools to achieve my blogging success. From the beginning using Blogger and then a few years ago moving to Typepad I have learned a tremendous about of information about blogging and blogging platforms. I also have leaned on others to help me hack my way through to get a blog that looks halfway presentable.

Early this year I seriously considered moving to Wordpress, but was uncertain if I had the technical abilities to pull it off. Recently, I realized that if I continue to ask the right questions and move it in steps than I can pull of off.

Here is my process of migration to Wordpress:
1. Secure my own domain name
2. Update my blog feed
3. Move Content to a hosted Wordpress blog

That process as has started! Please update your links to this blog to:

http://www.davidsfinch.com

I'll keep you posted when the feed has been updated. Finally, if you have any Wordpress tips, tricks and information please feel free to pass them on.

Thank you for subscribing and reading this blog.
