One of the biggest challenges to obtaining your personal goals can often be fatigue. Anyone that is trying to move forward will discover that fatigue pulls against forward progress. Especially if your trying to launch a new idea while still maintaining your "normal" life. Often times when fatigue sets in, will power alone doesn't get you through. You have to recognize it and then attack it like a bad virus.
I'm one that is never short on ideas and I also have been know to allow myself to get ran down and victimized by fatigue. Here are just a few things that have worked for me when I find myself in these types of conditions.
Accept that I'm wearing down
For achievers and producers this can be extremely hard. Denial is never good when your body, mind and emotions are telling you something different. Being able to accept that fact that your fatigued can be therapeutic in itself and the beginning to the road of rejuvenation.
Identifying what's causing the fatigue
Knowing what is causing the fatigue can make your life more easy. Personally, when I'm suffering from fatigue it will usually fall back on lack of sleep. Going long periods of time without sleep can be very harmful. When I know this, it makes the remedy process a lot easier.
Change your diet
It's extremely common when your in the crunch mode and "getting things done" seems all that is important, diet takes a big hit. Fast food become gourmet dinners and chips and sodas become energy aids. This can be extremely hurtful. Loads of carbs and sugars is never helpful when your stuck behind a computer for hours on end.
When I fill my diet with fresh vegetables and fruit and eliminate my carbonated drinks my body doesn't always feel so sluggish. My food is actually fueling my body instead of tearing it down.
Get some exercise
Ok, I know that we all may not go join a gym, but adding some physical exercise into are daily routine can be a life saver. Don't try to become a marathon runner overnight, but take thirty minutes and get outside and go for a walk. Get the blood moving.
This has always been helpful for me. It's amazing the more you do it, the more enjoyable it becomes. However, if your determined to become a high achiever, joining a gym and working out on a regular schedule can work magic on your fatigue levels.
Learn to say NO!
This can be hard for many, especially if your a people pleaser. You'll max yourself out and add more stress and pressure on yourself just because you can't say no. Saying "NO" are magic words to your personal sanity. Try it sometime. I guarantee you'll be surprised.
This won't be easy at first, but with practice you can eliminate undo pressure just be learning to say NO.
It's OK to sleep
This is what I have to remind myself of. I feel guilty sometimes wasting time sleeping. Especially, when I have goals and deadlines that I have put on myself. I wrestle with the idea that the more I sleep the farther I'm away from my goals. However, I've discovered that when I start thinking this way that I defeat myself before I ever get started. I find that instead of being fresh and effective, I'm constantly tired and at times extremely unproductive.
Taking the time to sleep and take naps have worked magic for my fatigue levels. It's amazing how much more I get accomplished when I attack my project list with new levels of energy.
Work Smart
I was told growing up that there are three ways to get something done. There's the wrong way, the right way and then the smart way. I've tried to find the smart way. Make sure your working smart. Take advantage of technology. Control the information you consume. Take back your phone. Be in charge of your email inbox. Shop smart.
There is a hack to anything you need. Find it and implement into your routine. Life's to short to waste time, work smart and take your life back.
Have Fun
It's OK to have fun! Laugh more, dance more, hang out with friends more, spend more time with family. Incorporating fun into your life is a secret ingredient to battling fatigue every time. Don't take yourself to serious, all your stuff will be waiting for you when you get back.
